WILD BEAUTY (2:25pm Newbury) was 11/4, now 2/1
Three wins and two places so far for Charlie Appleby, in seven starts, including the Grade 1 – Natalma Stakes at Woodbine, Canada, when 2.25 lengths clear of Pizza Bianco, back in September. She placed fifth of nine in the Group 1 – Fillies Mile at Newmarket (good to soft), the following month, just struggling for pace, although the it remains under discussion, whether that was too soon, after the Canadian contest. Better opportunity here and backed in strongly this morning.
ALABLAQ (4:55pm Lingfield) was 3/1, now 5/2
Was a seven race maiden, before finally taking a win over C&D, back in January, when half a length clear of Come On Girl. Results had dipped a little in runs since, but he did return to a more competitive level, when second to Intervention at Wolverhampton (6f, a/w), missing out by a shorthead. Drops into a 0-70 for the first time today, but comes in off the same mark as that victory and has a huge shout this afternoon.
MAKANAH (2:39pm Musselburgh) was 6/1, now 9/2
Six wins in thirty-two starts, with the last of those coming here, back in October 2020. Eight races have come and gone since then, with the best runs coming at this venue, including a third of six, some six months ago. He was quoted at 14’s on Thursday evening and even this morning this money keeps on coming in, to the point where Julie Camacho’s charge is favourite. Very much the steamer of the day.
BULLET FORCE (1:32pm Musselburgh) was 7/1 now 5/1
Winner here over 7f, back in August, when beating Devasbay by 1.25 lengths. Twice placed third since, before ending the season with a tough seventh of eight at Doncaster, in the Group 1 – Futurity Stakes, 15.5 lengths behind the mighty Luxembourg. Calmer waters here and the step up to a mile trip, look ideal for Karl Burke’s charge here and market interest offers further encouragement.
FLAMING MOON (5:10pm Cork) was 22/1, now 16/1
Two wins and five places for this Matthew Smith trained runner and after some disappointing form at the end of last season, hasd bounced back well over the Winter, placing third on return in hurdle contests at Cork (2m, soft) and then second at Leopardstown (2m, soft), when 2 lengths adrift of Watch House Cross on Boxing Day. Will be fresh from a break and comes back to the flat, with plenty needed to take the win. Place backing looks the way forward here.
