OUR TIP
Form: 723-0 BF
OR: 70
W: 9st 9lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
The form of her second at Newcastle last season reads well (7f AW) and she couldn't have given her true running when made favourite for handicap debut in April (1m); could be given another chance and she's bred for this far.
Form: 9-3521 D
OR: 69
W: 9st 8lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Has improved for handicaps and edged home in a small field at Wolverhampton (1m4f AW); only 2lb higher now but in what looks a better race.
Form: 76-721 D
OR: 68
W: 9st 7lb
Age: 3 yo Gelding
Nearly won his first handicap and went one better in the second, albeit narrowly over a similar trip at Haydock (good); the runner-up was disappointing last weekend but this 3yo only went up 2lb and looks progressive.
Form: 645-6 BF
OR: 67
W: 9st 6lb
Age: 3 yo Colt
Steady improvement last year and appeared to perform below expectations on his handicap debut at Doncaster (1m2f, good to firm; 9-4 favourite); interest to see if backers return.
Form: 645-4
OR: 65
W: 9st 4lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
200,000gns 2yo who is bred to be better than this mark but she was beaten about 6l in her first handicap over 1m2f on the AW; has to improve on that effort but it's still relatively early days.

Als River uniform
Form: 743-64
OR: 65
W: 9st 4lb
Age: 3 yo Colt
Improved in last season's novice races at about 1m but it's been a low-key start in handicaps, at 1m2f and 1m3f; trainer turns to blinkers for some inspiration.
Form: 4-406
OR: 64
W: 9st 3lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Not that dangerous in her first three races and again when 33-1 for handicap debut at Redcar (1m2f); wouldn't be the obvious answer.
Form: 7-44
OR: 62
W: 9st 1lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Showed more on third and final run in Irish maidens, finishing fourth of ten at Cork (1m2f, soft); left Jessica Harrington for 22,000gns; likely best watched unless backed.
Form: 586
OR: 55
W: 8st 8lb
Age: 3 yo Gelding
Beaten at least 12l in three qualifying races (1m-8.6f) but now goes handicapping at a modest level and over a longer trip; the market could tell a tale.

Betting Forecast

9/1 Reem Rak, 4/1 Kelly Burn, 9/2 Salkadan, 3/1 Brave Leader, 6/1 Willow Wood, 14/1 Als River, 33/1 Eze Sur Mer, 14/1 Aravalli, 4/1 Mick The Hat

Verdict

It might pay give another chance to REEM RAK who ran a long way below market expectations on her handicap debut but the form of her best run last season reads well. A case can be made on similar grounds for Brave Leader, and Mick The Hat needs monitoring in the betting ahead of his first handicap. Last-time-out winners Salkadan and Kelly Burn may have to improve if they’re to go in again.[Alistair Jones]
