It's possible it was the return to Ascot that prompted a revival a fortnight ago, but that close second (3m, good) also coincided with the application of a tongue-tie (retained) and he's a strong contender if repeating that latest form; also effective on heavy going and won on sole visit here.

Pulled up/tailed off elsewhere on last three starts and has plenty to prove regarding current form, but he's 1lb lower than when winning this last year (good to soft) and was a good second over C&D on his reappearance in November; could stage a revival now back here in a first-time tongue-tie.

Smart in his prime and proved he retains most of his ability when second in major handicap at Ascot (3m, soft) on seasonal debut in November; didn't fire in last month's Veterans' Final but still enters calculations.

First and second in back-to-back runs 216 days apart at Ascot last year (3m; good to soft/soft); looked on the retreat when a late error at Chepstow four weeks ago left rider without his irons; could bounce back from that and he has won around here, but this is a challenging mark in such a competitive handicap.

Won at Ascot last April and second in valuable handicap there (3m, soft; acts on heavy) in November; seemed to be backpedalling when a mistake four out at Chepstow four weeks ago left rider without his irons; even if bouncing straight back, he could still find that others are better handicapped.
