Won twice in seven days in September, both over shorter but he's fully effective at 6f; back to the same mark as for his Ascot win and he has shown aptitude for this surface; others appeal more for win purposes though.

Three-time course winner, the latest in last season's Portland (5.5f, soft; awarded the race); won two in a row (5.5f/5f, good to soft/good to firm) last month and, although he's been unplaced on his three runs since, he didn't enjoy a clear run at Ascot last time and is not written off.

Back to form last month, winning at Chester (5.5f, good to soft) and following up in good style over C&D four weeks ago (beat Mountain Peak); ran better than his finishing position suggests in the Portland and then had little chance from his draw in the Ayr Silver Cup two weeks ago; can't rule out under these conditions.

9st 12lb

J: Paul Mulrennan

T: Jim Goldie

Acts on all ground; tailor-made for these big-field charges and won the Bronze Cup here in 2021, also awarded the Portland last September; slow to find form in 2023 but the old dash emerged when winning at Chester and Ascot this month; had an off day in the Portland last week though and Paul Mulrennan returns in place of regular claiming rider.

8st 11lb

J: Amie Waugh

T: Jim Goldie

Acts on most ground; not many stronger finishers around when he's on song and, despite being slowly away and impeded late on, he so nearly overhauled Chipstead in this race under Amie Waugh last year (soft; promoted to first); quiet start to 2023 but as good as ever when winning last two starts and he is just 2lb higher than 12 months ago; big chance.
