Had an excellent spell last autumn, winning two of his final three starts at 1m (good and heavy); needed further progress to win the Spring Mile at Doncaster in March and that didn't happen but he ran well for a long way; can be more of a factor under Brodie Hampson who won this last year.
Form: 252808 D
OR: 85
W: 11st 2lb
Age: 6 yo Gelding
Five AW wins at 1m and 7f; modest strike-rate of 1-20 on turf but he's often run well in difficult races, including in one run here (hampered); well treated now but he hasn't looked in great form back on turf of late; most of best form on good or quicker, acts on good to soft.

Two AW wins (about 1m and 1m1f; made all) in January; had limitations in first three turf handicaps but he was a good second at Carlisle (1m, good to firm) 13 days ago and should have a good run in him, possibly from the front again; rarely races on slow ground but ran well on heavy as 2yo.

Age: 5 yo Gelding
Up and down on AW since these aids were fitted at the start of 2026, winning at Kempton and back to form after a couple of lesser efforts when runner-up at Lingfield in May (both 1m); no good thing to improve on poor efforts in two previous turf handicaps last year.
Form: 054-65
OR: 79
W: 10st 10lb
Age: 6 yo Gelding
All three wins at about 7f on good and good to firm; has more to prove at 1m but previous handicap attempts at the trip were in better company than this and it's likely he will stay this far round here; can go well following a creditable show at Beverley recently; Lewis Kent 2-2 for yard.

Form: 14-347 D
OR: 77
W: 10st 8lb
Age: 8 yo Gelding
Can lead; multiple AW wins at 7f and 1m but he's 0-14 on turf and it's a long time since he's been any threat on grass; up against it in only his fifth turf start in the last two years.
Form: 8182-7 D
OR: 77
W: 10st 8lb
Age: 5 yo Filly
Both turf wins at about 1m (good; unraced on slower), most recently when making all at Newmarket last October; has her share of weight off 6lb higher and, as she's won on a return from a break, her recent modest Lingfield reappearance leaves some questions unanswered.
Form: 123-90 D
OR: 75
W: 10st 6lb
Age: 7 yo Gelding
Two Sandown wins in 2025 at 1m and 1m2f (good and good to firm; acts on soft) under David Dunsdon; recent AW defeats can be glossed over and he's weighted to go well; one of the stronger options.

Betting Forecast

5/2 Desperate Dan, 13/2 Talis Evolvere, 7/2 Eupator, 8/1 Zoffandia, 11/2 Havana Blue, 16/1 Arctician, 10/1 Post Rider, 13/2 Warning Sign

Verdict

A wet week counts in Desperate Dan’s favour and he may be the main danger to EUPATOR, who ran well in a competitive Carlisle race recently. A return to the front-running tactics that served the selection well on the AW might be in the offing. Stablemate Talis Evolvere would make plenty of appeal on his best form but needs to show more signs of life than he has of late. Warning Sign and Havana Blue can also be involved.[Emily Weber]
