Good second at Thirsk on his stable/seasonal debut in April and backed it up with another good run at Chester last month (both 5f, good); a slow start did him no favours here four weeks ago, unable to adopt his customary prominent position; a 2lb higher mark has now kicked in but a return to form would be no surprise.

Form: -12480 D

Began the year with two good runs at Southwell but backwards steps in three runs back on turf; others look stronger.
Form: 3-2527 D
OR: 75
W: 9st 4lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Yet to add to her debut win in ten runs since; has shaped well on occasions, however, and no surprise to see her go well with a tongue-tie back in place.
Form: 2011-4 D
OR: 74
W: 9st 3lb
Age: 3 yo Colt
Ended 2025 with a pair of AW handicap wins; returned from five months off with a good fourth at Thirsk 12 days ago (5f, good); can win more races but perhaps not this one.

Down the field in three maiden/novice runs in April (7f, good and 6f, AW); dropped to 5f at Catterick 13 days ago and came from off the pace to win with far more authority than the neck margin might suggest; should get a strong pace to aim at and there could be more in the tank; interesting.
Form: 33533-

W: 9st 1lb
Age: 3 yo Gelding
Finished third in four of his five 2yo starts, all over 5f and on a variety of going; not obviously well treated back from 254 days off.
Form: 6-2104 BF
OR: 70
W: 8st 13lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Started the season with two good runs, notably a 6f win at Ripon in April (good to soft); two subsequent runs less convincing and connections now reach for cheekpieces.

Off the mark at the eighth attempt - his first run in a visor - when fending off 11 rivals at Newcastle last month (5f, AW; Class 6; front pair clear); a 6lb rise against stronger opposition could find him out.
Form: 321-04 D
OR: 70
W: 8st 13lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Ready winner of a four-runner 5f fillies' novice at Musselburgh last October (soft ground; final run for Kevin Philippart de Foy); two runs for new stable have been well short of that level; others look stronger.
Form: 3-362
OR: 70
W: 8st 13lb
Age: 3 yo Colt
He was having his first run back from wind surgery when second to Forest Phoenix at Catterick (5f, good to firm; made the running); 2lb better off with his old rival now handicapping, and this track should suit, but it still might not be enough to turn the tables.
Form: 928-56 D
OR: 69
W: 8st 12lb
Age: 3 yo Colt
Consistent rather than progressive as a 2yo; didn't run badly at Thirsk 12 days ago but more will be needed here and he's due to be 2lb lower from the weekend.
Form: -57121
OR: 69
W: 8st 12lb
Age: 3 yo Gelding
Two wins and a close second in his three handicap starts, the latest win a snug one at Ripon two weeks ago (6f, good); up 6lb and drops to 5f for the first time since his debut but he's progressive and shouldn't be underestimated.
Form: -56164 D
OR: 69
W: 8st 12lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Beat Empress Olivia at Catterick in April (5f, good) but unable to match that twice since; steps up in class and needs a career best.
Form: 425471 D
OR: 69
W: 8st 12lb
Age: 3 yo Filly
Off the mark at the 12th attempt, her first 5f start, at Lingfield last month (good ground); while she could have more to offer at this trip, a 7lb rise does ask a much stiffer question of her.
Form: 5-0251 D
OR: 63
W: 8st 6lb
Age: 3 yo Colt
Showed promise for Adrian Nicholls and he had plenty to spare when making all in a 5f handicap at Catterick on his stable debut; 8lb higher and raised two classes but he's unexposed at 5f.

Betting Forecast

6/1 Schrodingers Cat, 20/1 Ambishio, 14/1 Angel Numbers, 12/1 Straight Ahead, 6/1 Forest Phoenix, 20/1 Bravo Hotel, 16/1 Empress Olivia, 12/1 Houndhill, 25/1 Yellow Diamonds, 10/1 Vinciamo, 20/1 Under The Radar, 9/2 Simbas Pride, 16/1 Rotokura Belle, 8/1 Adalida, 6/1 Im Dan Dare

Verdict

Simba’s Pride is on the up and still has some handicapping scope but stall 12 might not be ideal given the best pace looks to be drawn low. I’m Dan Dare and Schrodinger’s Cat (second choice) are greatly respected but FOREST PHOENIX won cheekily at Catterick on his first 5f start and he could prove a bit better than his opening mark.[Paul Smith]
